The Crib

I found an apartment in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei, near the Taipower metro station and the Shida Night Market. It's a great location and I'm glad to be living in the city instead of in the housing my university offers. I'm taking business classes at National Chengchi University and I haven't seen the housing there yet so I can't comment on the quality but it's about an hour outside of the city by public transportation and I would hate to have to travel that far every time I want to come into the city, which is often. A lot of people suggested rent an apartment using Tealit.com but most of the posts are in Mandarin and many of the landlords don't speak English so it was hard finding an apartment on that site. I just contacted some of the current exchange students at my school before I left and was given the name of a landlord rep who many other students had used and who spoke English. The apartment isn't great but it's not too bad either. It's a five bedroom apartment on the 4th floor of a building. Two of my roommates are from Japan, one is from the U.S. and one from Canada. All in all it gets the job done.
