Today a friend and I ventured out to the Keelung Night Market. Yes, this is the night market Anthony Bourbain goes to on his episode of The Layover in Taiwan. Of the night markets I have been to so far, which include Shida, Shilin, and Ximending, this one had the most variety in terms of food options. We hopped a train from the Taipei Main station and took a commuter TRA train out to Keelung. The ride took about 45 minutes and when we got there it was raining. Fortunately, I was wearing a rain coat so I wasn't too soaked by the end of the night. We walked from Keelung station down Zhong 1st St. for about 10 minutes and then we hit the night market. I finally found a pork bun, which has evaded me at all of the other night markets. I was somewhat disappointed because this one was about 90% fat and I didn't find any meat until the very end. I ate some imperial crab legs that were larger than most king crab legs that I've had. Sticky rice accompanied the pork bun, which wasn't bad but didn't have much flavor. I had small mini soft shell crabs and for dessert I had some Dou Hua, which was my favorite item that night.
Awesome! Looks like you're doing well. Your blog is making me hungry!
